BONSOIR PARIISSSS!!!
It’s been 6 months since I started living in South Korea as a 22 y.o. Black girl. Yeaah, me!
To summarize my experience here, I really like the lifestyle, but sometimes it’s really hard to live abroad alone. I’m really close to my family, and I’m the youngest one. There are 3 sisters, me included, so it’s weird not having them around the house.
I went back home to Paris for a month in August, and I noticed something. In France, I don’t have a lot of friends, and surprisingly, my social life is a lot better in Korea. But living alone in a new city is harder than I thought. I have to find a new routine, learn how to cook properly, figure out how to take care of an apartment, handle administrative documents, etc....
Adult life is killing me, not gonna lie. How do people even handle that? I’m just a teenager in my head.
The hardest part is socializing in a new language, and for that, I’m making a ton of effort. I’m happy about it because it works, but it’s also draining me mentally.
I had to learn how to be an extrovert, not because I wanted to, but because I had to for my school life, finding internships, summer jobs, etc.... Because if I don’t take the first step, nobody is going to do it for me. And I hate having regrets, so I’d rather put my shy personality in the closet for a bit.
I’m getting homesick. I miss the French supermarket, I’mma be honest. No shade to Korea, I just want a “pain au chocolat” from my French uni bakery.
24/7, I just want to lock myself in my bedroom with my PC, playing video games and working on creative projects.
But I’m here for 6 months, so I guess I’ll just have to figure it out.. Who said life was easy anyway?
XOXO. Liyah
